This segregated unit provides services for residents in need of behavior management within a safe, unrestricted environment. Encouragement of socialization, reality orientation, increased independence and self-esteem are some of the benefits of this program. This program provides residents an individualized plan of care to alleviate psychiatric problems that are treatable with behavioral interventions.
SCHNURMACHER CENTER FOR REHABILITATION AND NURSING
AWARDED RE-ACCREDITATION FROM JOINT COMMISSION
WHITE PLAINS, NY, June 22, 2006 – By demonstrating compliance with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization's national standards for health care quality and safety, Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, has once again earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™. “We sought re-accreditation for our organization because we want to emphasize our commitment to residents’ safety and quality care,” says Linda Murray, Administrator for Schnurmacher. Murray praised Schnurmacher employees in working to meet the Joint Commission's benchmarks of quality. “Everyone works hard to achieve this recognition. We view obtaining a Joint Commission re-accreditation as another step toward achieving excellence.” Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation's health care through voluntary accreditation. Schnurmacher received Joint Commission re-accreditation after an on-site review of its long-term care program in February of this year. Only about 950 long-term care organizations have received accreditation nationwide. "Accreditation standards exceed federal and state requirements," says Marianna Kern Grachek, R.N., executive director, Long Term Care Accreditation Program, Joint Commission. “Furthermore, because this is a voluntary program, accreditation represents Schnurmacher’s decision to be recognized for its efforts to providing safe, quality care.” About Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Schnurmacher Center’s inpatient rehabilitation program is designed for individuals whose illness or injury no longer requires the acute care services of a hospital. Individualized rehabilitation programs are developed to enable patients to overcome the effects of fractures, strokes, neurological impairments, joint replacements and debilitating illnesses, and return to independent community living. Their residential long–term care offers patients with chronic disabilities a full range of services in a residential setting.
